Week 3

I made a mistake and my previous post did not address the reading, here is my response to that. Sorry for the confusion.
Through the 1970's and early 1980's, female students missed to take advantage of some professions which reflected gender stereotype per Wood.
I can see today more females going in the professions like engineering, biotechnology, senators, CEO's,and several other fields which men have been holding in the past. These profesions require a high level of education that women were not exposed to before.
At the same time men are going into the professions like nursing, secratarial, child care, etc.
These changes reflect the changing gender stereotypes.

My feelings are a little different about women in the military, I think they are excellent in nursing and all other lighter jobs are much easier for them, men are physically stronger.

Comment on Sireen's post

I think both parents are very important in up-brnging of children, although a child spends more time with the mother, so the mother plays the most important role in the child's life.

Week # 3

I have read an article about gender equality in Southern Africa. The article is from AllAfrica.com, it is titled "Southern Africa: SADC Leaders Urged to Sign Into Gender Protocol" and it is written by Thato Chwaane on May 26,2008.
They are trying to get the heads of states to sign the South African Devolopment Community Protocol on Gender and Development. They are moving for a stronger female presence in the governments, rights concerning marital rape, minimum mariage ages, marginalized and vulnereable groups, cohabitating couples, and so on. They would like constitutional changes specifying these rights, so that the rights are upheld to the fullest extent.

Finally I got to know how to make apost ,previously I was doing in all different fields, I apologize. One gender issue I came across was American First Ladies, there is so much written about them and they get so much attention in the media,do you think there will be such a thing as American First Men.

my week 2 blog

I have read an article in a magazine called Science Daily 05/2008.It talks about how being an enterpreneur is percieved as a male dominated career. This perception leads to less women and more men to go into the field, despite the fact that some of the attributes needed as an enterpreneur are typical female qualities, such as caring and nurturing, building relationships with others, and humility. As aresult of societal stereotypes and expectations, however, men are more likely to go into the field.

Class Business Post - Gender Sighting

According to textbook gender is socially made and expressed. Sex is what you are biologically born with, sex is determined by chromosomes.  Females usually have XX sex chromosomes and males usually have XY sex chromosomes.

There are some rare variations of chromosomes also, instead of the usual two, there are three:  XXX, XXY, or XYY.  All fetuses have cells with at least one X chromosome.

Gender is defined as a person's behavior and interaction in the society. Gender could be changed during your life span. It can be taught from the beginning of your life.  Sometimes gender comes out of cultural ideas beyond the normal sexual behavior and expectations.

In some cultures a person's gender can be changeable. If you are born male you may choose to act like a female.

In believe in the society of two sexes and only two genders.  That's how God made us.  Biologically given sex should be the normal or natural way for a gender to behave.
